ACTION NOTICE: IESALC Members and Friends of the Aviation Lighting Industry, the FAA and IESALC need your assistance by May 30th, 2025.
Advisory Circular AC 150/5340-30 is due for its next revision. Comments and quality feedback are needed from the industry to aid the FAA in drafting a new revision. This AC is one of the core guidelines for how our national airspace executes airfield lighting design and capital improvements. This is a perfect time for you to make suggestions and have a chance for your ideas to be implemented into the next draft revision. Please don’t wait until the draft is published. By then, it will likely be too late to add anything new. Please help us improve our industry by adding your comments to the Google document linked here <Google Doc Link>. When possible, please include in your comments page/paragraph/line reference, existing text (if applicable), proposed revision, and revision justification.
- Is there a common issue that creates confusion for reviewers and inspectors?
- Are there unique situations that are becoming more common and need to be addressed?
- Is there something missing that needs to be added?
- Is there something old that needs to be removed?
- Is there something duplicated that should be referenced instead of repeated?
- Is there an Engineering Brief that needs to be incorporated allowing the temporary EB to be cancelled?
- Is there a conflict with another FAA document or an outdated reference?
- Is there a conflict with ICAO or Transport Canada that could be reconciled?
- Is there a technology or feature that needs guidance if used (e.g. addressable lighting, linear lighting elements, sensors, controls, solar)?
- Do you have a new recommendation or guidance that can be implemented to improve safety, save on capital improvement, or save on operational costs?
- Remember, this AC is obligatory for “all projects funded with federal grant monies through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) or with revenue from the Passenger Facility Charges (PFC) Program.”
Thank you in advance for helping our industry grow and improve by engaging in “Step 0” of the Advisory Circular Revision Process leading into “Step 1” (Order 1320.46D Chapter 4) “Preparing Draft ACs”.
P.S. For those of you new to commenting in Google Drive documents, it is a simple process. Click the link above for the Google Doc and highlight any text and automatically a plus sign “+” button on the right will pop up, see 1st image below. Click that button and a comment box will open up, and in that box you can add your comment. Please avoid marking other people’s comments “as resolved” aka click the checkmark as this will make the comment disappear and we won’t be able to send to the FAA, see 2nd image below.
