MISSION
The mission of the Illuminating Engineering Society Airport Lighting Committee (IESALC) General Aviation Subcommittee is to support all General Aviation Airports in adopting the latest airfield ground lighting technologies and ensuring that they can be acquired at a value price point. We advocate for airfield safety and training, safe work practices, and proper installation, while fostering connections between airport personnel and industry partners.
VISION
The IESALC General Aviation Subcommittee envisions general aviation airports and airspace with enhanced safety and utilization through the use of cost effective, high-performance visual aids and equipment. The subcommittee foresees improved general aviation airport operations and safety through quality supporting documentation, training, and supplemental information regarding industry recognized good practices.
PRESENT
With the continued production of The Community Service Airports (CSA) Visual Aids Handbook, the GA subcommittee is always re-evaluating the best way to continue to serve the industry. This subcommittee meets monthly (Generally 3rd Tuesday) to continue developing supporting documentation and other resources serving its mission and to realize its vision. HISTORY
This committee has been in existence for over 30 years. The committee has focused on the development, testing, and installation of items that have been in service in the past. This equipment includes edge and threshold lighting, wind indicators, radio controllers (PLC), base cans for GA lighting, airport beacons, PAPI’s, REIL’s, guidance and distance remaining signs, with installation guidelines and maintenance for all GA Airport lighting and visual aids.
